Pinks and Chartreuse

This quilt has given me a great deal of trouble.

I think I started it, during the period of my worst vision before the first of my cataract surgeries, and then I only worked on it a little in a very slipshod sort of manner between the two surgeries. The angles for the stars are not standard. I had to make my own template, which I could not see very well and then I got the math and almost every measurement wrong in almost every way possible. Given all that I am pretty pleased I got to this point.

I took a break, here after sewing the border on two sides so that I could think about what I was going to do about the corners. Since I had pretty much decided I want to use the grey fabric with the pinks and chartreuse for the binding, I wanted to make sure the corners would work with that. Now that I have taken the picture, I think I have a solution. The corners will be dark grey and pink.

Four Square; a work in progress

This quilt started life as an accident. For the first Churn Dash quilt I needed two each of eight blocks, somehow I got carried away and made 2 each of 9 blocks. When I put the first quilt together I was left with two extra blocks and then of course I had to make a couple more to fill out the square. Since this was a second quilt I did not have to use the same sashing, but I guess I decided I rather liked the sashing that I had chosen for the initial quilt, and I think, I hope it will be interesting to see how differently the two quilts turn out despite a their initial similarities.




I tried laying out the next border, wonky triangles on a light background, without a second dark layer of sashing/border like the one I used on the other version, but I decided I didn't much like it.



So, I tried it again with a second narrow dark border. I think that worked better. In the process of adding the extra border ( the one which I have actually sewn on is seen below) I tried flipping the wonky triangles so that the wider, heavier part of the coloured triangles seem to "sit" on the center base block of the quilt. I think this works better.

Bee at Work

I've done a little sewing; the mug rugs are sewn together, but they may or may not be finished. I just cannot decide if I want top stitching around the edge or not. Between gardening (I have been eating fresh vegetables from the garden almost everyday) and cataract surgery, I just have not been up to doing much sewing.

I've now made five of these little mug rugs -5"x 5"



At present they have three layers, the pieced top, a mostly cotton batting middle and a flannel backing. Now I am ready to choose backing fabric.

Progress Made

I've been actively working on too many quilts at once. It not only makes a mess, it means that progress is hard to see. But finally I have some measurable progress. Actually, I think I finished two quilts, I have two quilts ready for quilting and the others, at least some of them are moving along.

I really love the way the actual quilting, finishes a quilt and I think the quilting of this one does its job.

Small Iris

I really have been working on my quilting, but somehow I have not been posting. I am about to get back into it. I have a whole flock of quilts in various stages of progress. I will get something posted about at least one of them tomorrow.
