Summer II
Again I fell into my bad habit of working but not posting. I've been so busy I've hardly even taken photos.
But finally here is one of my recently finished quilts.

There is another one on the way shortly and I just finished pinning a quilt sandwich that I am about to carry it off the sewing machine, so there should be another one before too long.

Firey Squares
These blocks started out as a test run for the guild's October Challenge, but for that it is a bust. The full square circuit of one colour does not achieve my assigned goal. At first I was very upset. I probably still should be, as I have no idea how I am going to meet the deadline, but I have decided I like the hot firey colours. I have 10 of the small log cabin blocks completed and plenty of fabric to make two more, so I will have four of these, about 10 inch, blocks.I am not sure how to set these blocks. I don't have the fabric to make a large quilt (or the time really), but I don't think these four blocks side by side (making a large square) will do. It would be a bit small(or large), plus I think matching up the medium red side by side, seems to take away some of the firey impact. I am thinking about turning them a little on their sides by adding a narrow triangular border -- probably in a blue -- around the red squares. But so far I have only reached the thinking stage.
Summer II
I found this green fabric and knew it was the perfect summer green, a bit browned by the heat of the sun. And then I realized I was meant to be making Spring. Sigh... So Summer II is going to be completed before Spring I. (But I got an idea during my knitting group this evening.)
Pinks and Chartreuse Stars
Now I have three and a half quilt sandwiches pinned together (the half is mostly quilted but still partially pinned), but now I am out of pins. I don't even have a couple of pins to do a mug rug or a potholder, so I guess it is time to get on with some quilting.

Pinks and Chartreuse
This quilt has given me a great deal of trouble.
I think I started it, during the period of my worst vision before the first of my cataract surgeries, and then I only worked on it a little in a very slipshod sort of manner between the two surgeries. The angles for the stars are not standard. I had to make my own template, which I could not see very well and then I got the math and almost every measurement wrong in almost every way possible. Given all that I am pretty pleased I got to this point.
I took a break, here after sewing the border on two sides so that I could think about what I was going to do about the corners. Since I had pretty much decided I want to use the grey fabric with the pinks and chartreuse for the binding, I wanted to make sure the corners would work with that. Now that I have taken the picture, I think I have a solution. The corners will be dark grey and pink.

Four Square; a work in progress
This quilt started life as an accident. For the first Churn Dash quilt I needed two each of eight blocks, somehow I got carried away and made 2 each of 9 blocks. When I put the first quilt together I was left with two extra blocks and then of course I had to make a couple more to fill out the square. Since this was a second quilt I did not have to use the same sashing, but I guess I decided I rather liked the sashing that I had chosen for the initial quilt, and I think, I hope it will be interesting to see how differently the two quilts turn out despite a their initial similarities.

I tried laying out the next border, wonky triangles on a light background, without a second dark layer of sashing/border like the one I used on the other version, but I decided I didn't much like it.

So, I tried it again with a second narrow dark border. I think that worked better. In the process of adding the extra border ( the one which I have actually sewn on is seen below) I tried flipping the wonky triangles so that the wider, heavier part of the coloured triangles seem to "sit" on the center base block of the quilt. I think this works better.

Bee at Work
I've done a little sewing; the mug rugs are sewn together, but they may or may not be finished. I just cannot decide if I want top stitching around the edge or not. Between gardening (I have been eating fresh vegetables from the garden almost everyday) and cataract surgery, I just have not been up to doing much sewing.

Progress Made
I've been actively working on too many quilts at once. It not only makes a mess, it means that progress is hard to see. But finally I have some measurable progress. Actually, I think I finished two quilts, I have two quilts ready for quilting and the others, at least some of them are moving along.
Finished: Flying Geese on Grey

I really love the way the actual quilting, finishes a quilt and I think the quilting of this one does its job.

Quilt Tops
I've now got two quilt tops almost completed. (and I've already picked out the backing fabric for the Churn Dash, bright black and white top). When finished, I think both quilts will have an additional fairly narrow border. Neither of these two have real names yet. I kind of like the idea of calling the quilt with all that colour -- Black and White, but...
Black and White or Bright Churn Dash Quilt

Although I have the black and white backing fabric for this quilt, it will take a bit of work. The quilt is a bit wider than the fabric and so I am going to insert a bright section, including some of the colours used on the front of the quilt.
Because of a mental slippage, I accidentally made two, too many blocks, so I have started a second quilt using the Churn Dash block in brights and black and white. (And shockingly enough I have the backing fabric for this quilt as well. I saw it and it struck me as absolutely perfect.)
Field of Blue Stars

I think I am off to start the process of adding the borders.

Golden Glow Finished!
Finally finished (actually I still need to make a name tag and sew it on the back).
This quilt took quite a long time. Actually the center went together pretty quickly, but then planing the border took a while and finding the fabric for the last bit of the border took even longer, but now the quilt is done.
